Not Buried, Planted.

In this series, I visit the delicate relationship between pain and growth. The space in between despondency, affliction and vitality where one decides whether she will bloom or wither. Inspired by a "tweet" by E. Bekure, it is a testament that although we may at times feel buried, we are indeed blooming.

The production of this series involved incorporating antique botanical prints overlaid and superimposed onto my subjects. Amplifying hairstyles, manipulating and combining features, often merging and piecing together eyes from various sources with my subjects eyes resulting in them appearing more like a painting celebrating the varying beauty of Black children.
