DEEPLY EMBEDDED
2016
Deeply Embedded was created during a time where I continued to come across negativity centered around natural black hair & styles. Anger followed by frustration and sadness forced me to refocus that energy into creating work to speak for me as our words fell upon deaf ears.
The production of this series involved the use of photographs taken across Africa (c1901) from a project titled "Africa Through The Lens" via the National Archives superimposed into my subjects amplified coils and curls. Antique batik patterns were repurposed and montaged over neutral tones to create wardrobe.
